Its now Sunday , and i have had a full day to catch up on all alot of the work i had to do , so had a little time to think about the whole trip . I am already being asked , which end of the country i prefer , and to be honest , its not an easy question to answer . Niigata has alot more to offer the average koi dealer , more variteys , more breeders , and a massive variation of prices . But saying the that , the south has go sanke from some famous breeders , that fill a gap in the go sanke that i can and cant buy in Niigata . So to answer all of you , no i wont stop going to Niigata , it has been the basis of building Gatywick Koi . and will always be there and a massive part of my business . As for the south , it hasnt replaced part of my Niigata business , its is an extra arm to ever expanding and growing Gatwick Koi . I think the travelling is a killer , and its a massive down side to the visit , but of course im hooked , and will go again ! So to all of you who may worry that we are about to change , nope , not at all , we will still select the non go sanke , still have cheap nisai , but the other end of the scale will go up , its what a lot of our customers want . and of course we listen to you , for you are what Gatwick koi has become ( one of the reasons we have so much non go snake this winter ! )  So i take a bow now , and go to bed ready for my flight tomorrow , id like thank you all , this has to have been one of the most successful trips ever , record number of koi bought , and definately the most sold EVER ! A massive thanks to everyone involved , and of course to my long suffering family at home , if we are late opening Tuesday , please forgive us in advance ...................................................

This was to be my last buying day in the south , so a great place to visit was Taniguchi , i have three koi here that stayed in the mudponds , so was eager to see them . We arrived and taken to his new fish house , very impressive facility , but the down side was most koi were already sold ! There were around 40 nisai for sale , and i picked out a few examples , and the ones i like were male , so they all went back . I looked around as the breeder showed me the koi in the sold pond , he said this is the best ones , then i saw my maruten kohaku , and she looked great ! In another pond we found the other kohaku , smaller much smaller so i thought , they were both bowled up , i realised the smaller one wasnt so small , he laughed and sai the maruten was 55cm approx , the other around 49 , not bad for koi bought as tosai around 32cm , so very happy , the showa is yet to make an appearance !

After a livley night out with Matsue , I awoke with what I thought was a hangover . I really diddnt feel the love for today at all , I thought I must have really  really over done  the saki , the night before ! Thankfully we had a two hour drive to Takigawa , so plenty of water , coffee and some food and I should be fine . The plan diddnt work , by the time we got there I was feeling worse , limited sympathy from the present company , but was given pain killers which eased the achiness I was feeling . It was obvious it wasn’t drink related at all , and by now I was shivering and feeling really bad . It was a struggle to concentrate as we were shown round all the ponds , there were some really nice sansai in one pond , and then showed us some very nice quality aigoromo in one of the ponds that I thought was sold the visit before . I bowled them straight away , the skin was excellent , and easy good enough for koi shows , I thought they were nisai around 40cm , but was surprised when told they were sansai . He explained they diddnt go to the mudpond , left in the concrete pond for conditioning , I wasn’t going to argue , very nice koi ! He then told me don’t worry about shipping , they can go in with the small nisai you bought a few days ago , we will pack in a bigger box . So it was win win win ! Then I realised I hadn’t asked the price , but that wasn’t too bad either so although feeling ill , it was a good start to the day .

It was nice to awake before the alarm clock , with the  Sun beaming through the window .,  a welcome change from rain , wind and typhoons !  Today we were going to Matsue koi farm . Famous for his Kohaku derived from Sensuke bloodline , many years back . The farm also does a few sanke and showa , also some odds and ends as a hobby ( as i was to find out later ) . i was told we would be there for the whole day , a little surprising , as im used to going to several farms a day . I was shown into the fish house and stated looking around , so much red and white . they started to blend into one another , and i really diddnt know where to start ! To be honest i think the breeder sensed this , and took me to a few other house , to see tosai , small nisai and some larger koi as well .  The farm was very impressive , and also one of the noticable differences , is the amount of staff they have working , and helping customers . Some koi were bowled by some of our group , so i decided to have a look round , i found a stool , and sat down at three differant ponds , and took some time out , to study , what was available .

As most of you know , im quite a restless sleeper when im in Japan  . This trip has been pretty good , i seem to be getting 4-6 hours a night , so feeling ok . Last night wasnt the case , i worked late catching up on the web and messages etc etc , turned in at 2.30 , and had a restless sleep till around 6ish , when i got up and did a little more work . As ive been fine all week , i can only put it down to the apprehension of the next coming day . Sakai fish farm , is one of the biggest and most famous koi farm in the world , and i havnt visited here in 15 years or more . As we arrived , i could see the fish house had more or less doubled , since my last visit , and was even more  impressive !On entering the farm , it was like a mad house , by half nine , there must have been 6 or more groups already bowling koi up .
