Earlier on in the week we visited Nagashima and purchased a nice sanke from Momataro bloodline , we needed to buy some more to get the fish shipped at a resonable price and as he had harvested today we went to take a second look .Two koi were purchased here , one maruten type showa , ( Nagashima has bred Momotaro into his showa line as well this was done to improve growth rates and body shape ) , this was two year , female and from his main pond , along with a nisai shiro utsuri also female , although this had a tiny yellow fleck on the eye i decieded that the skin and sumi quality were so high that this over rode a tiny mis colour . Leaving here and driving back to Ojiya we decieded to have a quick look at Marasaka , mainly doitsu and metalics , he has sanke as well from the original Jimbei bloodline . Many attractive koi with some very unusual ones attracting my attention , it was decieded that the light was too bad too carry on .Another excellant day !

After lunch we visited Miyatora , his fish were fantastic , many varietys and prices were quite good , this time the only 3 fish that moved me were sold out , oh well you cant win them all ! Round the corner to Hirasawa , this really is a huge facilty ,( and they have another five like it !) . The place was stacked full of koi but again none that we where really intereasted in . Maruhiro is in the same place as hirasawa (his dad ) where it really is like a visit to the mad hatters tea party . I dont mean that disrespectfull , the guy really is a laugh to be with and jokes all the time . Seeing nothing new we started to make a move out the door when one of our party saw some new chagois, being light after we couldnt get them at Marudo we managed to get 16 , along with the gin rin ones from his dad we are all now sorted for chagoi. For people who are worried that they wont grow as big as Marudo , Hirasawas bloodline the brood stock are all over one meter , and one female was 1.4 meter , is that big enough ? Also good news , Maruhiro is oing to try and harvest my shiro that we left out there last year on Friday , lets hope its three out of three ............................

Japanese food is differant , there can be no doubting that , breakfast this morning cold scrambled eggs and cold meat balls . If you can stomache that then anything that follows is a much lesser feat . With that in mind it was off to Oofuchi , this familys fish get a lot of flack about being a mass producer of koi , but the standard gets better every year , also with many varietys and resonable prices you cant go far wrong , and if you want higher class fish , then go to the top fish house and see the better sansai ! Today was to be one of the best we have ever had at Oofuchi . First koi in a bowl , 3 step sanke and a tancho sanke from matsunoske blood line and a kujaku ( for which they are famous for breeding ) all female , sansai and around 50cm .Next three again sansai and female and roughley the same size, this time differant varietys , kikkoryu , kin matsuba and a nice shiro utsuri .Last two were yonsai ( 4 yr ) , around 55-60cm , doitsu hariwake and ochiba , again both female . For some reason Oofuchi doesnt harvest many nisai untill later , this time he had some in a pond , so hoping they were good value as the larger koi we picked a nice box of 6 fish with a stunning ochiba and a 45 cm hariwake , we were not disapointed ! We then went to his "secret pond " , thats right the one 100 yards from his house that every one knows about ! The quality in here was breath taking , sansai and yonsai of every variety . Five fish were purchased , yonsai kujaku 65cm , sansai shiro 55cm and tancho sanke 55cm , yonsai shiro and ochiba which are amoung the best i have ever purchased , two Japanese hobbiests were cooing over the shiro , i knew it was a winner ! The last shiro and the kujaku were my two favourites , the pic of the kujaku was a landscape one which i inverted so it makes the koi look "stubby" , its not , believe me !!!!!!!!!!

Torazo had harvested some more nigh grade nisai , so i still needed another one to go with a two step i had bought earlier in the week .The fish were impressive but nothing i liked in the budget i had set aside , so ill return again later in the week when he is harvesting again . A quick visit to Kawakami produced nothing , and again Nagashima had nothing new in . After another bowl of curried rice we went to Yagneji where we bought some large goshiki , kikisui and a massive gin rin yamabuki ogon . We had to rush off as we had a 3pm appointment with Sakai , on our arrival the place was heaving , and a large group of chinese were buying koi like they were going out of fasion , being a small company i thought it best to leave and return later , which was a shame as we had seen two very promising looking shiros for Rod . Sakai saw us and said hello and straight away mentioned the weight i had lossed (my size seems to be an obsession with the breeders) and asked what we were looking at , when i pointed at the shiros he asked to wait for a minute and he would bowl them up . ( who says the big breeders dont make time for the little guys )When the chinese had finished the two shiros were duly bowled and one was incredable , the quality was so good i was worried about the price , but it wasnt as high as we thought , and with a bit of negotiating it came down to where we wanted to be , ( i think he was in a good mood due to selling so many high class fish to the previous party ) An excellant end to the day . The picture doesnt do this koi justice , although the head may have heavy sumi , the skin is excellant and the sumi is of very high quality , great pattern and very good body shape nad pattern . see u tube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrOXxXMMBB4

With the time differance its nice to get the blog done by 12 at night here so its all ready for when you guys get home . Now reguler followers of my blog know that on every trip i have my tired day , well this was it . I was flagging at the meal and by the time i got back here to the hotel i was well and truly shattered and falling asleep . After spending over an hour doing the blog , adding the pics and video link i was proud of my self for fighting off the sleepy zone , then i decieded to have a look at how the blog looked and used the same browser without saving the page , all work lost ! So being a little angry i called it a night and slept for 6 hours straight through , and woke at 4am and decieded to give the blog another go . While on the subject of the blog i was very happy today when the website guy emailed me the stats for our website and thier is nearly a 1000 people following my insane ramblings , thank you all very much for taking the time out to read our site it means a lot to me ( now if i could just get half of you into the shop .....lol ) First stop Marudo , i needed to buy quiet alot of his chagois and karashigois , but it wasnt to be as he had only some slightly larger ones and they were more money to buy than i was selling them for last year , so unfortunatley we had to pass , i will try again later during the week and see if he has changed his mind . After this we seemed to find everything we couldnt find last year , on the way out of Marudo we found some very nice benigoi (which we couldnt buy any last year ), so i bought a couple of boxes , (rude not to ) these were really big bodied fish and will grow very big ! From here the hunt was on for some chagois so it was off to Hirasawa . He assured us that he had some in a pond where the water had obviously not seen a uv yet .So the pond was seine netted and one chagoi turned up , lots of gin rin ones , but none without gin rin . (again last year we could hardly find any gin rin chags and had loads of orders for them . ) So we bought a few of them , and then another pond was netted and again it was only gin rin ones in the pond , so again being dissapointed i needed some retail therapy so bought 3 sansai asagi instead , very pretty fish and all female and between 50-55cm . First picture Marudo benigoi , next Hirasawa chags and kigoi and asagi . last pic is the asagi from Hirasawa .
