There has been alot of talk about pearl gin rins , so we where very happy when we arrived at Sekiguchi to see some small nisai we could pick through . The price was a little on the high side but i was happy as the quality was good , also managed to get a few showa in the same box . I has already heard that my showa wasnt going to be harvested untill next week , so you can imagaine my surprise when they said it has been harvested , when the fish was bowled it was fantastic , it had grown from around 40cm to 55cm , the fish was just so much better , then the breeder broke my heart by saying the fish was so improved it would sell in his premises for 600 000 yen . GREAT !!! considering it was already sold in the uk for a fraction of that price . ( Malcolm you owe me a beer , better make it a large one !!!! or a malt whiskey ) So to drown my sorrows i spent about an hour trying to find another showa to leave in Japan , the showa chosen was exactley as i like , just as i reached out to shake his hand a little cough behind me and Diane said "err , we quite like that one Gary " , My thoughts ran to a certain gentleman in the South East koi club nicknamed the poacher , i couldnt believe it was happening again ! Customer always has first choice so like a grown up mature person i passed the koi to them , and then sulked for 20 minutes untill we found another one for my self .Equally happy with the second showa we left with no money and a video and photo each ! After realising that we had spent nearly 5 hours at two breeders , we decieded there was no time for lunch so a quick sandwich and coffee and back on the motorway to Ojiya , stopping off at Maruhiro to see what koi were available . This is the younger son of Hirasawa and his fish just get better every year . As it was getting late we decieded that id buy a couple of boxes of koi for the trade page and come back again another time .Also may have some good news later as well , the shiro utsuri we left there last year may be harvested later this week while im still here , rather than next week as they had origanally planned . Pictures ; first two , pearl gin rins and showa , showa that was ours from last year which was harvested yesterday , Rod and Dianes showa to go back to the mudpond , my showa also destined for the mudpond next year and some assorted nisai from Maruhiro

The guy who sang the song couldnt have said it better . Scrambled egg on toast with what tasted like chinese chicken and several glasses of juice it was off down the motarway to Tanaka to see a gin rin showa that was left out here last year . The smile on the breeders face said it all , so pleased with how it came out of the mudpond he wants it to go to the nogyosai show ! So with this in mind when he offered his number one nisai gin rin showa this year , i felt i couldnt refuse , well , it would be rude not to ! Then we selected through his nisai , and better grade nisai with nearly 20 koi and a number one nisai it was a perfect start ! First picture is the gin rin showa staying a further year in Japan . The kin ki utsuri is very high quality , the picture doesnt doi it justice !

As our guide has sundays off , we were pleased when he offered us a chance to go to a sansai harvest at Yagenji koi farm . From there we just looked around the mountains and had a relaxing day . Tomorrow we will be back to the dealers and start off at Tanaka to see the gin rin showa we we left there last year and hopefully look to buy some more.

Today we started out at Torazo to look at the koi we saw the night before when the light was fading . We were not disapointed , the three step kohaku was great and duly purchased , along with another kohaku both female around 50cm . Then it was over to another facility to view some more nisai , i have reserved a two step kohaku untill he harvests again during the week , sorry about the photo it was taken quickley as the fish wasnt purchased yet . Our customer then priced up two very high quality sansai kohaku , and to our surprise the better one was surprisingly cheaper , wondering where we were going wrong and what we were missing the breeder then realised we had misunderstood and had got the prices round the wrong way , koi was rapidly returned to the pond . Again the picture was taken in a hurry and we havnt purchased but i thought you might like to see. First two koi in the following pictures have been purchased , the other two are under consideration .

Right at the top of the mountain we found ourselves at Masaki , very famous for his shiros , asagi and kujaku . Really nice guy and certainly willing to make good prices . We have a few customers with orders for shiros so we found one in the right price range , female and around 50cm (nisai) , also purchased were two sankes , one being very delicate in the sumi pattern , so if you like to watch change this is the sanke for you ! Again both nisai , female and around 50cm .
